Electronic writing: The golden rules
Do-Delegate-Delete-Delay
1. Only give your e-mail address to the ones who really need it.
2. De-activate signals indicating incoming messages.
3. Open your mailbox only at fixed hours (morning, before lunch, after lunch, at the end of the day).
4. Indicate clear objective.
5. Write short message (one screen if possible) – compact your text.
6. Indicate if you are expecting an answer. Organize your feed-back.
7. Write a standard answer to frequent questions.
8. Master interaction with other software: electronic planner, organizer, etc.
9. Only treat an e-mail once (do-delegate-delay-delete) and answer immediately whenever possible.
10. Organize sub-directories. Clear your directories, empty the trash box and re-compact all directories at least once a month.
